It's been quite a week.
Six days ago, I finished my third novel.
Five days ago, I started my fourth.
The novel I finished (in first draft, at least) is called THE WRONG GOODBYE. It's a direct sequel to my upcoming debut, DEAD HARVEST, and the first I've actually written under contract. DEAD HARVEST is scheduled for release in March of next year, with THE WRONG GOODBYE following that autumn. Technically, it's not due for another few months, which is good, because while it is now officially a complete novel, it's far from completed. There's doubtless a great deal of polishing to be done before I'm ready to let it out into the world, but it's much easier to make something good out of something rough than it is to make something out of nothing.
As for the New Book, it's a big-ass crime thriller, and maybe the most ambitious story I've yet told. I've got about a third of it outlined, and maybe a chapter and a half written. It has a name, but for now, I'm not saying what that name is. For now, that's all you get...
Oh, and a note for the mathematically inclined: yes, this post mentions I've written three novels. Yes, I only talked about two of them. The third, which was actually my first, is titled THE ANGELS' SHARE, and it's still looking for a nice home. So if you happen to have yourself a publishing house and you'd like to take a peek, you just let me know...

Good luck on all fronts, Chris.
Thanks, Patti!
Isn't it amazing how much work can remain between a completed novel and a publishable novel?
You ain't kidding, Bryon. I've been at this game a while now, gotten an agent and a book deal, and I don't think I've ever actually finished a novel yet. Maybe when I see one on the shelves, it'll be finished. Or maybe you'll catch me red-lining shit in my aisle at the bookstore.
A publishing house would be a fool to pass on THE ANGELS' SHARE.
And continuing congrats, Chris.
Kind of you to say, David. (Somebody give David a publishing house, STAT!)
Chris, can you tell us what THE ANGELS' SHARE is about?
Ha! As if a writer alive needs much goading to talk about their books.
THE ANGELS' SHARE is the story of Alex Whittaker, a young college dropout who's retreated to her old hometown and seems content to while away her days in a fog of drink, trying to erase the memory of an assault that left her reeling.
One morning, while out running off last night's booze, she stumbles across a local high school girl, beaten and left for dead. She tries to save her, but cannot. But soon, Alex is haunted by horrible nightmares, and memories that are not her own.
Alex becomes obsessed with uncovering the girl's assailant. Her investigation reveals her quaint New England town is rife with scandal and corruption, and she discovers some would go to any length to ensure her investigation is not successful.
And as her nightmares bleed into her waking hours, Alex is forced to make a choice -- face off against a vicious killer as well as the demons of her own past, or risk losing herself completely.
Wow Chris, that sounds like a great read. I sure hope you find a home for it soon. I can't wait to read your other upcoming novels, if they're half as good as your short fiction, then I'm sure I will be blown away.
Very kind of you to say -- thanks!
Great news all around — for you *and* for us. Congrats, Chris!
Thanks!
