Very solid review. You managed to put aside your feelings and create a reasonable, accurate analysis of this story.
It's not up at Spinetingler yet, but I just trashed the Oates story I read. She's obviously a very talented writer, but sometimes it sounds to me like she's doing homework instead of telling a story.

I had my reservations about this story, but overall, I quite enjoyed it. I get the impression others were not so lucky in their assignments...
