Hey, you know that really cool thing going down tonight in my hometown? Yeah, I'm not going.
Turns out, cold viruses have a nasty sense of humor. See, I've had a so-mild-I-could-just-ignore-it cold for days now, and I figured by the time the book release rolled around, I'd be right as rain.
Instead, I woke up this morning with a sore throat and what I can only assume is a cinderblock wedged in my sinuses. I could barely get out of bed to call in to work. Methinks partying ain't the best idea ever, and even if it was, giving a writer a cold at his own book release seems like pretty bad form.
Blerg. I guess it's back to bed for me.

Well, that sucks.
Doesn't that just figure?! Feel better.
It does indeed, David.
And thanks, Steph!
I had the same thing last week. It bites that you have to miss the book launch, but giving Connolly a cold is probably not the best way to introduce yourself.
No fooling, huh? Though truth be told, the worst of it is having a whole day off in which I'm too damn foggy to get any writing done.
Like Michigan, Maine is still in the throes of late winter, thus flu, I'm guessing.
Actually, it almost hit eighty here today, and was as pretty as you please. Not that I got to enjoy it, of course. But last week was kinda lousy, and that's doubtless when I contracted this beauty of a cold. (I'm stubbornly clinging to the cold idea; I refuse to grant I've got the flu.)
Sorry to hear it, buddy. I hope that you're feeling better by this point. For what it's worth, I recommend using a neti pot. If you've never used one, it takes a bit of getting used to, but it works wonders for sinus pressure and washing away the nose goblins. For the sore throat, a hot toddy will set you right. I'm tempted to use Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur instead of brandy or whiskey, but that's pretty much the sum-total of my holistic medical advice. Regards, Josh
I hope you're feeling better, Chris. It's a real shame you missed the event, because John is not only an excellent performer when it comes to readings, he's also one of the nicest chaps you could ever hope to meet.
Sure, sure, Stuart -- rub it in. My hope is that he schedules some more appearances around town, because I really would like the chance to see how it's done. But if nothing else, at least this party was a good excuse to pick up some good new books.
And thanks for the tips, Josh! The ginger hot toddy sounds like my kind of medicine...
