Two posts in one day? Madness, I say! But with all the kerfluffle over the announcement of the Spinetingler Awards, I nearly forgot to mention that the Winter 2008 issue of Spinetingler, featuring my short story A Simple Kindness, is now available.
The Winter issue of Spinetingler was guest-edited by Jack Getze, so a shout-out to him for rescuing me from the slush pile. Jack's Big Numbers is as smart and funny a book as you're likely to read, so I suggest you check it out. And as always, props to Spinetingler Uber-Editor, Web-Mistress, and all-around lovely person Sandra Ruttan, without whom the Award-Winning Author could not pompously refer to himself in the third person. (Hmmm, I wonder how long the wife's gonna put up with that before it starts getting old.) Swing over to your nearest on-line bookseller and pre-order a dozen or so of her eagerly anticipated Dorchester debut today. You'll be glad you did.

In my case, it was the wife who started this third-person thing while introducing me to her business associate. "No, that's not my husband," she said, "that's The Famous Author who hangs out here."
Nice.
And thanks for the stop-by, TFA...
Hey, congrats on the story and the pdf download is now working (thankfully). Nice things to say about Jack too, which are well deserved.
Thanks, Sandra!
Another great story, Chris. Holly reminded me of Angela from Bust and Slide (just started Slide, and it's excellent so far).
Good stuff.
That's a huge compliment, Stuart, because that story was borne of a Hard Case Crime binge -- one of many reasons I was delighted to be nominated for a Spinetingler alongside Charles Ardai, founder of HCC. It's quite a thing, to dwell in the company of giants.
I have to say, I thought SLIDE was even funnier, smarter, and all around bigger than BUST. I'm dying to read the third installment.
Congratulations on the award! I expect that it is the first of many.

Thanks, Josh!
Congratulations, Chris! Like Josh, I expect it to be the first of many!
Thanks, Brenda!
