Two years.
Two years of my life I've lived with the characters of The Angels' Share. Two years, five drafts, and countless hours spent ignoring the world while I pushed words around the page.
Two years, and today it's done.
It's a strange feeling. Just a final read-through, and it's ready for submission. And you know what? I think it's pretty damn good.

And in the end, of course it's your opinion that counts.
Okay, the editor's opinion counts because that determines whether the editor will buy the book or not. But whatever happens with this editor or any other, you'll always know you created a good book.
Believe me, there are plenty of opinions that matter, but there was no guarantee that I was gonna like this thing, so the fact that I'm proud of it is quite a relief. I think it'll pay forward, too, because if I can feel good championing it, there's a better chance others will, too.
So, does this novel thing ever get any easier?
It does get easier.
With later books, each book is still unique*, but the act of writing a novel is no longer unique and amazing. So the energy and drive aren't the same, but it's more just the thing one does, and it goes along more smoothly and easily.
*If not ... well, that's a problem.
I have to say, I already miss working on this one. And I'm already itching to start on the next...
